Birth Doula Services
I am excited to announce that as of January, 2022, I will be offering my services through Childbirth Kingston.
Why the change?
Since I first trained as a doula in 2013, I've been connected with other doulas in the city of Kingston. I've done all sorts of projects with them over the years, but I've always essentially worked alone as a doula. This means long stretches of time on-call without breaks or being able to go see my family who lives a few hours away. It means always having to worry that if I get sick or have a family emergency, my client may have to give birth with my backup doula - someone they've only met for a brief chat, probably over Zoom. It means the potential of having two clients in labour at the same time and only being able to attend one of them. It means sometimes supporting birthing people for 48 hours or more without a break. In other words, it's a recipe for burnout.
In chatting with other doulas we discovered that we all felt the same way and started brainstorming how to make doula work more sustainable for us while improving the quality of care given to our clients. What came of those conversations was the creation of a doula agency where we can work in teams, which means that, as our clients, you will have two doulas serving you, both of whom you get to know well, instead of just one. This is a win-win solution that benefits clients and doulas alike. You may also, of course, contact me as usual through the Contact page on this website. I would be happy to set up a time to meet and chat more about what we can offer you! |
